Crossroads Market - Fall 2021 - Second Year
In part one of this project, I studied the structure of a gas station canopy. It is a very light structure that is hidden from view inside the siding of the canopy. In part two, I experimented with the verb "weave". I did not want to weave the structural members but rather have them appear to be woven by adding many layers to the structure. In part three, the main idea was to not only have the structure appear woven, but the spaces between as well. The structure is all aligned by a grid system. After entering the site, one circulates through different spaces and levels that are all woven together by the main structural elements. The levels overlap each other with walkways allowing the viewers to experience the structure as they walk through. The shadows that are cast on the surfaces by the frosted glass and the roof structure reinforce the idea of weaving.
